Indonesia Fashion Week!

(after a long absence, i'm BACK!)

Here it goes!

So on the 23d till the 26th of February, Indonesia Fashion Week was held, and i had the opportunity to experience it first hand!

A week before, i got a call from a family member, telling me that someone got me a spot to help out backstage for a designer. She told me the designer was Barli Asmara, and i was absolutely shocked. He’s one of the best (in my opinion) young designers in Indonesia, i was jittery and excited.

So he told me he would like to meet me on the 23d (a day before his show, which is on the 24th) and i sort of panicked a little. I mean here i am, just an ordinary girl, and a critically-acclaimed designer wanted me to come to his office and meet me!

So i got off early from school on the 23d and went home to get dressed and such, and then i was off to meet with Mr. Barli!

I went to his office, and i had a nice chat, he asked me what made me come to fashion, i told him that i was just drawn to the world of it; the clothes, the people, the headlines it made, and the influence it had. And he asked me what i wanted to do in fashion, and i told him about my love for drawing and designing, and also the equal love i have for reporting and fashion magazines. So i told him that i’d love to work for either a fashion house (weather it’s someone else’s, or my own) or in a fashion/lifestyle magazine. I don’t think i asked a lot of questions, because (believe me) i’m so extremely shy and i was still starstruck.

And then we went on discussing the plan for tomorrow, he said i should stop by his office first, before going off to the venue with his team. So, i nodded in agreement:)

I also got to see the face of Indonesia Fashion Week, Mesty Ariotedjo, a family friend (and to whom i owe greatly for getting me this amazing opportunity!), who came in to do a fitting. I watched as three gorgeous dresses were being tried on. My favorite would have to be this floor-length, slim, black lacy dress. it was so beautiful!

After the fitting, Mr. Barli had somethings to do so he had to go out. And then I went home (after thanking him about a million times, of course)

—————-

The next day (the day of the show) i went home from school early again, to go home and get ready for the big day!

I met his team at his office and we went off to the venue. The first thing we did when we got there was transporting the clothes into the closet, where it would be kept safely before the show starts. What really surprised me was that the clothes had to arrive 3 hours before show time. I thought that was a really long time, but one of his team members said that during these three hours, the models were undergoing hair and make up, so if any of them needed an urgent fitting, the clothes would be ready.

So i did a few things in the closet, i helped with arranging the clothes in order of appearance, hanging tags depicting the models’ names and shoe size on each piece of garment, steamed the clothes, etc. etc.

I also walked around the closet (actually a pretty big space, but very dense because of the many clothing racks) and saw some other designers’ clothes (fantastic! and i loved that in almost every garment, there’s the batik element which represents Indonesia’s culture)

an hour before show time, the clothes were brought to the ‘actual’ backstage.

the ‘actual’ backstage had a small room for changing and storing the clothes, accessories, shoes. As we wait for Mr. Barli to arrive, we arranged the shoes (which are gorgeous by the way! i’ll post a picture!) and bags. I also got to watch another designer’s show, and see the model lineups etc.

When Mr. Barli arrives, he made a few changes to the clothes, etc. i noticed that he was very keen on details, it was amazing how he managed to see little things like a wild thread, truly great!

I wondered where the models were, i mean the show was about to start and they’re not here. I asked, and the team said that they would be using models from the designer before us! i was shocked, and a member of the team told me that the models would come in like a storm and we had a little under 5 minutes to change all of them.

I gaped, how are we supposed to that? i mean 12 models, 5 minutes, and the collection of the designer before us is all floor-length ball dresses with very very high heels. I asked that if it was actually possible getting the models out of those dresses in such a short time, so the team just told me to be prepared and just help as much as i can (and not to get in the way, i guess:))

and it was true, 5 minutes before they announced our show, the models began storming into the little room and it was crazily frantic. we had to dress them really quickly, and such. In a rush, being the klutz i am, tripped on some shoes a couple of times. and after that the models all rushed out the room to line up before the show starts. and just as the line was complete, the first model walked out. it was all very, very fast.

The show went absolutely fantastic, the clothes were amazing. and i clapped as hard as i can when Mr. Barli went out to the runway to take his bow.

After the show i spent a little more time with the team, and helped them carry the garments back to their cars, before saying goodbye. i didn’t really get the chance to thank Mr. Barli personally as he rushed out the venue after the show. Although i still said (shouted, would be more fitting) ‘Thank you’ as he was getting into his car and saw his team and I near the exit.

All in all, it was a splendid night!

It was great seeing, experiencing (and learning) such a professional environment!

And it was such a blessing to be able to work with him and his team!

Thank you so much Mr. Barli Asmara, for letting me tag along! And have a happy birthday (March 3)! i wish you all the very best!

AMT

So, i know i haven't posted in like, forever, but i'm posting now!

The reason i haven't posted is because i've been really busy with school and i've been dressing like poo (I would've said a curse word, but my teacher is going to grade this post, so) so it's not worth to post.

Anyways, last weekend my school had this program where all the ninth grade students received motivational training for the future, it's called Achievement Motivation Training. Achievement Motivation Training (AMT) lasted for 3 days, starting Thursday to Saturday.

On the first day (Thursday) the event was held in the school, all the students got to meet successful Labschool alumnies. If you're wondering, Labschool is the name of my school. haha. So there were four alumnies, there was a banker, a tv reporter, a doctor, and a business man. they talked to us about the road to success and the struggle that wold ultimitely lead to it. One of my classmates asked if the four of them had experienced failure to the point where they thought they couldn't handle it anymore and just wanted to quit, or as they say it, hitting rock bottom. They all said yes-naturally-, they said that they felt hopeless and wanted to get away more than anything. But they motivated themselves and picked theirselves back up and continued their journey. Which is very inspirational actually. I guess that's the only memorable part of the first day for me. Though after that talk with the alumnies, i still feel that i lacked motivation and that they didn't give me enough. So i was doubtful that the rest of the program would give me enough motivation for the future.

On the second day (Friday) the event was held outside of school and we had to spend a night in a hotel outside of Jakarta, it's called Grand Pesona. The first thing we did after the two hour journey (by bus, psssssh) to get there was eat. and then we were assigned to our rooms. You must know that my room feels so haunted! All the other rooms had flat tvs, while my room had this big, old tv which wouldn't turn on! the worse part is, the view from the window isn't beautful at all. the view were laundry hangers and it's very creepy. Oh, and i also got the bed which was nearest the window because my friends all tagged their beds and i was the last one so i got that bed.

I can't say i remembered all of the events, but, i remember that it was very motivational. and my classmates, who are usually very loud, abnoxious, and childish, all shut up to hear the speaker speak. There was a speaker who tought us how to memorize everything quickly, and we were told to make a mindmapping of whatever. Then there was this speaker which i thought didn't make sense like, at all. But by the end of his session he managed to make everyone-well, i think it was everyone-cry because he made some sort of teary speech about our mothers. then there was this motivational speaker, to whom i didn't really pay attention to because i was tired. then at about 6 pm, they let us take a break, and so i showered because i felt sticky and dirty (ew). after that, the boring motivational speaker returned for his second session, which lasted until 10 o'clock. i didn't pay attention to this one either because i fell asleep. hehe.

When it was *finally* time to sleep, we all went to our rooms. My friends and I all refused to sleep because our room felt haunted. So we stayed at someone else's room for a while and we watched narnia (helloooooooo skandar) but when i asked the teacher if we could move rooms he said no (boo!) so my friends and i went back to our room to *try* to sleep.

Good thing is, another friend of mine slept in my room and took my bed so i didn't have to sleep near that window! So we all slept with the tv on, after an hour of sleep i woke up because the tv was playing this horrible, horrible soap opera where the characters screamed every five bleeping seconds. argh

Because i couldn't sleep and it was 1 o'clock and it was creepy, i decided to loose myself in a book. It's The Age of Innocence by Edith Wharton BUT sadly i couldn't finish it because i thought i kept seeing something behind my book. creeeeeepy.

So i didn't sleep until five in the morning, then i got ready for a run. I was going to run alone but my friends asked me to wait for them. So i waited. for an hour. I was majorly upset because it does not take an hour to get ready for a jog. And plus, at 6 am, the hotel is really crowded with my classmates playing around and taking pictures. So we went for a 5 minute run, well, i jogged and they sprinted. five minutes, can you imagine? not a even a full lap. After they gave up on running and instead took pictures, i decided to ran 3 more laps with a friend who actually wants to exercise before getting breakfast.

At 9, we had our final event. It was writing a life proposal-you know, writing what you want in life, what you want to be, where you're heading etc. etc. I wrote that i wanted to be a fashion director of magazine, and attend FIT in NY and blabla. So afterwards the teachers told us to stand on our chairs (I felt a little like Blaine Anderson here. haha) and read aloud our wishes. I ended up shouting mine, and choking on tears. Seriously, it felt like i could hear each and everyone of my classmates' wishes because all of them yelled out what they wanted very loudly and passionately. it gave me actual shivers.

After that we packed and head back to Jakarta. on the bus i slept, woke up and ate a bag of lays, and then slept again until we arrived back in Labschool. After getting my luggage, i went straight back home and didn't get a chance to see my friends because i had a math course waiting for me *sob*

Well, i guess that was my weekend. It was actually very cool to get to spend time with my classmates and get some motivation boost.
